Indigeneity in Europe: Issues and Perspectives
Online event, 28 July 2022

An international scoping workshop 'Indigeneity in Europe: Issues and Perspectives' to share and develop understandings of indigeneity in the European context is sponsored by SIEF. The event is a collaboration between the PWWG, UHI’s Institute for Northern Studies, and Learning for Sustainability Scotland. It will take place at UHI Perth on 28 July 2022, with linked events on the evening before and the morning after. Johan Sandberg McGuinne, Indigenous knowledge and tradition bearer of the South Sámi in Sweden and a Scottish Gaelic translator, teacher, poet and academic, has been invited to give a keynote sharing Indigenous methodologies, including creative engagement with the living traditions of Place Wisdom. This is scheduled as a public evening event on 27 July 2022. Tickets are available from Culture Perth and Kinross.

The workshop aims to bring members of the group together with one another and with others representing diverse institutions, expertise, and knowledges, to share and develop understandings of indigeneity in the European context. The workshop has been structured along four interconnected themes: Session 1) Lands, peoples and languages, Session 2) Living from the land, Session 3) Spiritual knowledge and Session 4) Intercultural and intergenerational issues. Sessions will be live-streamed. On-line participants will receive an Eventbrite ticket upon registration and a Teams link and calendar invite two days before the workshop.
