SIEF2021 15th Congress
Helsinki, Finland
19-24 June 2021
Breaking the rules? Power, participation, transgression
The 15th SIEF congress is hosted by the University of Helsinki, Finland’s largest and oldest academic institution (est. 1640). With the theme Breaking the rules? Power, participation and transgression, we invite and encourage participants to explore the dynamics, modes, arenas and implications of breaking the rules and to revisit and discuss underlying concepts.
We also planned to invite you physically to Helsinki, that vibrant capital city by the Baltic Sea with an Arctic twist known for its laid-back and safe atmosphere, its internationality and open-mindedness, and the proximity of urban culture and mesmerising nature. However, people plan and the fates laugh…
Due to the unpredictable situation regarding COVID-19, the SIEF2021 Scientific Committee has taken the decision to hold the congress fully online. The University of Helsinki’s work has moved online and no large events will be held there in the foreseeable future. Combined with the uncertainties in funding, travel and insurance and the very different restrictions applied within Europe and beyond, it has become obvious that the fairest thing to do is to offer a congress that is equally accessible - financially and physically - to all participants.
While we are all deeply saddened by not being able to meet in Helsinki, we are sure that the congress will be one to remember: with spectacular keynotes, innovative (rule-breaking?!) events and the opportunity to experience the Arctic atmosphere through a unique music programme - online in Helsinki.
The Call for Papers is now closed, over 900 proposals were received. Panel convenors will be marking up the papers by 14 December.
